Stalwart bandsman Ian Buckley has announced his retirement from active playing after putting in 43 years on the trombone with numerous bands — latterly with Silk Brass.
Love of banding
An upcoming operation means that he will miss the Area contest for only the second time during his playing career. Ian’s first contest appearance was way back in 1968 and ever since he has combined his love for banding with the many friends and playing colleagues he has met over the years.

Ian told 4BR: "I have thoroughly enjoyed playing with all the bands – especially Silk Brass in the past few years. I have been privileged to play with many wonderful performers and players but the best has been my wonderful wife Denise, who has been a banding widow because of me for 27 years!"
