Childs leads Cornish youth

Dr Robert Childs has spent his Christmas putting the talented young players in Cornwall through their paces.

Dr Robert Childs recently led the four day residential course of the Cornwall Youth Band, where 60 talented young musicians, aged from 11 to 20, enjoyed concentrated full band and sectional rehearsals at Truro High School for Girls.

Assisted by the team of local tutors, led by Brian Minear, Dr Childs led the band through a selection of challenging music including 'Penlee' by Simon Dobson, which the band itself commissioned in 2008.

At the end of the course the band showed off the result of their hard work with a concert at St Michael’s Church in Newquay.

Manchester

Later this month they will be heading off to Manchester to give a joint concert with the Gwent County Youth Brass Band, under Robert Childs’s baton at the Festival of Brass at the Royal Northern College of Music.
