Hot on the heels of 5 players receiving Long Service Awards from the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association last week, there was more good news for Thurcroft Welfare Band when they were contacted by the BBC to inform them that they would be featured BBC Radio 2's Sunday morning programme presented by Aled Jones.
Aled Jones
Aled has chosen to play ‘In Perfect Peace’ by Kenneth Downie, recorded by the band on their CD ‘100 Not Out’ earlier this year.
A spokesperson told 4BR that the band had contacted the composer who was equally delighted to hear his composition featured on national radio.

Fine weekend
It rounded off a fine weekend for the band, with Peggy Tomlinson from the YHBBA presenting Long Service Awards to Harry Spotwood (60 years service), Malcolm Taylor (59 years), Janet Gibbins (57 years) and Philip Dickens (59 years). The 5th member of the team, David Brock (58 years) was unable to attend due to a family illness, and will receive his award later this month.
Achievements
The presentation evening also saw the achievements of the Thurcroft Training Band recognised, with their awards.
Joint winners of the Terry Harries Memorial Award were Charlotte Green and Louise Piper, whilst euphonium player Ellie Lunn was voted Training Bandsman of the Year.
