In December, The South Brisbane Federal Band will travel to the Fraser Coast region, to present the first of what is hoped will be a series of concerts at Maryborough's award-winning Brolga Theatre.
Maximum Exposure
One of the band's priorities for some time has been the development of a large-scale concert series, to ensure that performance of brass band repertoire in inner metropolitan Brisbane is given maximum exposure to the broader concert going public.
The band is endeavouring to see that audience bases are being nurtured, developed, and continualy stimulated. In August, the Feds piloted their new series with 'Classic Brass', which was received with a standing ovation at the city's Old Museum Concert Hall.
Players relocate
Undoubtedly, one of the great strengths of Brisbane's metropolitan bands is the regular supply of talented younger players from the north, who every year, relocate to the capital to further their education. Recognising this debt, the band has dedicated itself to producing concerts not only in Brisbane, but regional Queensland as well.
Christmas Brass Gala
On December 18th, The Feds welcome guest soloist Greg Aitken in their 'Christmas Brass Gala', at the Brolga Theatre. Greg, head of brass at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, is also a former principal trombonist with the band and occupies something of a celebrity status in Maryborough!
Greg has for decades been a leading performer, mentor and source of inspiration to brass musicians young and old across the state. We are thrilled to have him join us,...Ben Crocker, MD, The Feds
Speaking of the event, the band's Music Director, Ben Crocker says, "Greg has for decades been a leading performer, mentor and source of inspiration to brass musicians young and old across the state. We are thrilled to have him join us, and his addition to the program will undoubtedly be a big highlight."
