The 2010 contest year got back into full swing in the last few weeks where there has been plenty of money on offer for the bands who have been able to tickle the fancy of the judges in and out of the boxes.
15 bands over four grand
There are now 15 bands that have won over £4,000 in prize money this season, with a further 55 who have won over £1,000. Who says there isn’t any money to be won in brass band contesting?
Big payouts
And with big payouts due at Pontins, Brass in Concert, the Scottish Open and the Swiss Nationals in the next few weeks, a few local bank managers may well be smiling.
With their latest podium finish at the National Finals in London, Fairey (Geneva) extends their lead at the top of the Money List, with total winnings for the season now standing at an almighty £15,850 – and with Brass in Concert to come.
Heading to Gateshead
Although Tredegar couldn’t add any more money to their coffers at the Royal Albert Hall, a £1,500 payout at Wychavon just after their British Open triumph came in handy as they now move into second place. They also head for Gateshead looking for further big money returns.
Hepworth remain third after a period of contesting inactivity, whilst Cory moved closer to them after picking £1,500 at the Royal Albert Hall. Both their seasons have ended though, as it has for Black Dyke and Desford.
The newly crowned National champion Brighouse & Rastrick has moved up from 9th to 6th after their London triumph — although they only added £2,000 to their prize pot for their efforts4BR
National Champions
The newly crowned National champion Brighouse & Rastrick has moved up from 9th to 6th after their London triumph — although they only added £2,000 to their prize pot for their efforts, with high hopes of adding more bunce at Brass in Concert – with a possible £4,000+ up for grabs.
Other bands looking for a payout at The Sage will be Foden’s, Grimethorpe, Leyland, Reg Vardy, Carlton Main, Flowers, Rothwell Temperance and Redbridge.
