15 reasons to be cheerful at Shirland

Shirland Welfare celebrate 15 times over following their recent successes at the Leicester BBA Solo contest.

Shirland

The Shirland Welfare Band is celebrating 15 times over after their young players came home with a hat full of prizes at the recent Leicestershire BBA Solo Contest at Groby.

Massive entry

There was a massive entry of 130 performers on the day, but despite the numbers, the players did their band proud with no less than 15 prizes to celebrate.

And it all started with 10 year old bass trombonist Rosie Glossop, who won her section, followed by individual prize winners, Jon Harvey, Tara Sheppard, Hollie Minney, Catherine Ashley, Lewis Squires and William Thirkell.

Quartets too

The Shirland quartets were equally successful too, winning prizes in the under 14 and under 18 categories, whilst the duettists of Hollie Minney & Catherine Ashley and Jon Harvey & William Thirkell also picked up awards.

To top all though Lewis Squires with three individual prizes was declared 'Overall Champion'.
