The city of Dublin (OH) has made a commitment to its new community band program as part of this year’s bicentennial celebration. This effort began with the reintroduction of the Dublin Cornet Band (which had been in existence from 1879-1929) for its Independence Day celebration.
Next to join the community band program was the Ohio Brass Band, which has now renamed itself as the Dublin Silver Band to reflect the city’s support and various awards it has earned at the US Open Brass Band Championships in it’s brief two-year history. In the works are also a wind band (the Concert Band of Dublin) and a jazz band.
The debut of the Dublin Silver Band will take place on Monday, October 25th with James Gourlay making the short trip (by USA standards) from Pittsburgh to conduct and solo with the band. Dr. Gourlay will also visit several area schools on his trip.
In addition to Dr. Gourlay’s contributions, the band will give a preview of this year’s US Open programme, “What If?” Also at the concert, committee members of the Dublin Community Bands will be there to help share the vision and future plans of the group.
