Leyland open up with new signings

North west challengers set to open up for London with quartet of new signings.

Leyland has announced a quartet of new signings ahead of their Royal Albert Hall challenge next weekend.

All four will be on show at the band's National open rehearsal too — this Thursday.

Signings

The signings include cornet players Laura Hirst and Richard Walker.

Laura comes from rivals Fairey (Geneva), whilst Richard returns to the band after a 14 year break after recently playing with Freckleton.

Leyland has thanked the departing Damian O’Reilley and Grant Taylor their for dedication and commitment over the years.

The front row has also been bolstered by the signing of Lucien Rey from Chermignon, Switzerland. Lucian, who played for the ECV Band, is a 1st year Business Studies student, studying at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The final member of the new quartet is Jonathan Hooper on bass trombone. The freelance musician and teacher has played with the Halle and BBC Philharmonic.

Jon replaces longstanding player Kevin Wilson, who leaves Leyland with their best wishes and sincere thanks for his efforts over many years.

All four players will be making their debuts at the Royal Albert Hall next weekend, but can be seen in action at an open rehearsal on Thursday 7th October at Lostock Hall Community High School & Arts College ( www.lostockhallhigh.lancs.sch.uk).

Commencing at 8pm, the free evening will feature a short concert as well as an opportunity to hear the band prepare and perform the National Final’s Test Piece ‘Terra Australis’.

Olney Brass

Milton Keynes Brass

September 26 • Required: Solo Euphonium and Solo Horn. We are a championship section band, newly promoted in 2025. We rehearse in Loughton Milton Keynes on a Tuesday night at 7.45pm until 10pm, with extra rehearsals prior to contests or formal concerts.
