Royal Albert Hall finalists, Aveley & Newham Band has announced the appointment of Ben Gernon as their Resident Conductor.
Experience
Ben is a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Patrick Harrild, Sian Edwards and Sir Colin Davis, and was the Principal Tuba of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain as well as playing with the likes of Staffordshire, Carlton Main and Black Dyke bands.
He has worked with a number of leading conductors and has conducted Staffordshire, Newport, Jackfield and Virtuosi GUS, as well as participating in conducting workshops with the NYBBGB.
Orchestral experience
Ben has also gained considerable orchestral conducting experience and is the National Association of Brass Band Conductor’s Young Conductor of the Year 2009.

LSO shadow
He is currently shadowing conductors of the London Symphony Orchestra, including Valery Gergiev and Sir Colin Davis, and will be part of the LSO Conducting Masterclass with Sir Colin Davis next February.
A band spokesperson told 4BR that Ben is very excited by the appointment and is looking forward to working the band hard!
