This year’s Great Northern Brass Arts Festival, which takes place at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Saturday 11th September is set to honour Edward Gregson, who this year celebrated his 65th birthday.

One of the foremost composers’s for brass band over the last five decades, each concert throughout the day long event will feature at least one of his compositions.
The Household Troops Band will open the festival with an appropriate performance of ‘Prelude for an Occasion’, and this will be followed by the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain under the baton of Bramwell Tovey performing his 1984 National Championship test piece, ‘Dances and Arias’ as well as his formidable ‘Concerto Grosso’

The current English National Champion, Fairey (Geneva) Band have programmed a performance of his ‘Tuba Concerto’, whilst the evening Gala Concert which features Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick and Fodens’s will see a rendition of his ‘March Prelude’ as well as his iconic ‘Laudate Dominum’.
