Celebrations for M2

The new generation of young players at City of Cardiff (Melingriffith 2) have had plenty to celebrate at the National Eisteddfod of Wales last weekend.

The City of Cardiff (Melingriffith 2) Band has been celebrating taking first prize in the Fourth Section at the Welsh National Eisteddfod at Ebbw Vale, last Saturday.

Inventive

Formed in December last year, the band was making its first appearance at the Eisteddfod and is delighted with this success.

Eight bands took part, but it was the band’s inventive programme under the direction of Dewi Griffiths that won the day – and the £400 first prize.

It is a new band and a great achievement for such a group of mainly young people to have reached such a high standard in so short a timeDewi Griffiths

Team effort

Although it was very much a team effort, special praise went to percussionists Amy Herman and Heledd Gwynant, both aged 11, as well as 15 year old soloists David Rees and Josh Herman.

Dewi told 4BR: "Naturally, I am delighted with this result, which is the product of a lot of hard work. It is a new band and a great achievement for such a group of mainly young people to have reached such a high standard in so short a time.

They should all be congratulated on winning their first ever trophy, which I hope will be the fore-runner of many."
