The second Kiveton Community Woodland Brass Festival took place on Sunday, 18th July.

Forestry Commission

Organised by the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association in partnership with the Forestry Commission England, the event took place on the site of the old Kiveton Park Colliery, South Yorkshire.

The site has been reclaimed by the Forestry Commission and includes a natural amphitheatre where the bands performed their 20 minute entertainment programmes.

After a highly enjoyable contest, victory went to Crofton Silver under MD, Tim Sidwell who took the £250 first prize ahead of Thurlstone and Hucknall & Linby4BR

Ten competitors

Open to Third, Fourth and unregistered bands, the event attracted ten competitors, six of which had colliery connections. The adjudicator was Stan Lippeatt.

After a highly enjoyable contest, that featured band's playing a march and hymn item in their programmes, victory went to Crofton Silver under MD, Tim Sidwell who took the £250 first prize ahead of Thurlstone and Hucknall & Linby.

Prize contribution

Crofton's bass trombone player Tom Wellings also picked up £100 for his prize winning solo contribution.
