Poynton thanks to American friends

The VBS Poynton Band recently hosted the Natural State Band from Arkansas USA.

The VBS Poynton Band and Musical Director Kevin Gibbs have offered their thanks and ‘safe travels’ to the Natural State Brass Band, and Musical Director Rusty Morris.

Joint concert

The two bands played a joint concert on Monday night to a packed audience at Poynton Methodist with both bands receiving standing ovations.

In a neat transatlantic musical twist, Poynton played all British inspired music whilst their American friends responded with music from across the Atlantic Ocean.

In awe

A Poynton band spokesperson told 4BR: "We were in awe of the guest soloist Dougs Yeo, the bass trombone from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who performed 'Stella by Starlight' and a special arrangement of 'The Arkansas Traveller'. Performances like this are not something you hear bass trombonists doing often!"

Not outdone

Not to be outdone, though, Poynton’s baritone player Andy Lawton, stood up to the challenge with a superb rendition of 'Brillante'.

To mark the occasion of the concert, the bands presented each other with commemorative banners.
