Changes to National Youth criteria

The BFBB has announced rule changes for the 2011 National Youth Championships in Manchester.

The British Federation of Brass Band has announced that the National Youth Brass Band Championship sub-committee recently held its annual review and evaluation meeting where a number of rule changes were agreed upon for the contest.

A spokespeson told 4BR: "The committee considered and discussed all points and ideas that had been submitted by bands, adjudicators, players and staff who helped on the day."

4BR has been informed that the following rule changes will be implemented for the 2011 event.

Training Band Section:

The age limit for the Training Band Section has been lowered to under 15 on the 31 August 2011.

All players can not be older than 14 (pupils up to and including Year 9 will be able to play)

Junior Section:

The Junior Championship bands will have to include in their programme two verses of a hymn tune chosen from ‘120 Hymns' of the red hymn book.

Percussion

Heavy percussion (Timpani & full concert drum kit) will be in a fixed position. (Exact details will be included in the rules for 2011).

All other percussion equipment will be placed at the band's discretion.

All the above changes will be evaluated after the 2011 Championships.

Chinnor Silver
