Meechan wins prestigious award

Dr Peter Meechan wins prestigious compositional award in Arizona.

Dr Peter Meechan's concerto for tuba, 'Episodes and Echoes', has been awarded the prestigious 'Harvey G. Phillips Award for Excellence in Composition', at the recent International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Arizona.

Recorded and released

The concerto was written for Les Neish, and has recently been recorded and released on his award winning CD, 'Salt of the Earth'.

Peter also had works featured on two CD’s that were nominated for Roger Bobo Awards at the conference.

Nominations and performances

'Elegie', performed by Steven Mead and Spanish Brass, on the CD Brass and Wines, was nominated in the 'Ensemble' category, whilst 'Fields of Destruction', commissioned and recorded by Pat Stuckemeyer, and featured on Pat’s CD, 'Footprints', was nominated in the 'Solo Euphonium' category.

The composer also saw performances of three of his works at the conference by James Gourlay, Jason Ham and David Thornton.
