Gregson delight
Speaking when the recording was made, Edward Gregson said: "I am delighted that Peter Moore is the soloist for the premiere recording of my Trombone Concerto. In 1979 I was commissioned to write a concerto especially for Michael Hext, who had won the inaugural BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.
At the young age of fourteen he is still at the beginning of his playing career, but few will doubt his potential as a trombonist and musician of the highest calibreProfessor Edward Gregson
Highest calibre
He added: "As Peter Moore is the current title holder of the same competition it is very fitting that he should be the soloist on this disc. At the young age of fourteen he is still at the beginning of his playing career, but few will doubt his potential as a trombonist and musician of the highest calibre.
"He is studying at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, one of the most prestigious specialist music schools in the world, and a school at which I am proud to be a governor."
Huge honour
Peter Moore commented: "It’s a huge honour to have been asked to record the 'Trombone Concerto' and I am really looking forward to working with Edward Gregson, Bram Tovey and the BBC Concert Orchestra."
Moore is set to perform concertos by Rota and Milhaud at the Rheingau Festival, Germany in August this year.
