Dr. Stephen Arthur Allen, euphonium soloist and MD of the Princeton Brass Band in the USA, recently gave the world premiere of the complete 'Euphonium Concerto' by Gareth Wood with the Rutgers Symphonic Band directed by Professor Darryl Bott.

The event took place on April 28th where Stpehen performed the work, originally written in 2006, and which is dedicated to David Childs (who gave this premiere his blessing).

The work was originally premiered by the Cory virtuoso in 2006 in three movements, but Stephen peformed the work with the restorted s 'Waltz' movement, thus completing the original symphonic design of the work.

The work was raptly received by both band and audience and i believe Gareth has delivered a masterpiece for the mediumDr Stephen Allen

Masterpiece

Stephen was approached by Geoffrey Brand to give the premiere, and Gareth subsequently wrote out the parts and, in addition, a full piano accompaniment for the work.

Stephen told 4BR: "The work was raptly received by both band and audience and i believe Gareth has delivered a masterpiece for the medium."
