Lofthouse on the slide

Lofthouse Brass are on the slide — and they are quite happy to find themselves in that position too.

Lofthouse

Lofthouse 2000 Brass has announced an exciting venture with Leeds City Council, aimed at producing a number of new trombone players.

New trombones

The band has now been able to purchase new trombones for an exciting initiative called 'On the Slide' following a grant from the council of nearly £8,000.

The project will enable Lofthouse to run a number of workshops and offer specialist trombone tuition to new players, as well as purchase a number of new instruments.

The problem is that we've got more members than decent instruments, so this grant will help us to not only develop new players but also offer them instruments to play onMD, Andrew Whitaker

On the Slide

Along with the support of Michael Rath Trombones, the grant will help the organisation to develop a new group called 'On the Slide'.

MD, Andrew Whitaker told 4BR: "The band was formed just over 10 years ago and during that time we have developed from a junior band into an organisation with over 60 members across the groups."

Problem

He added: "The problem is that we've got more members than decent instruments, so this grant will help us to not only develop new players but also offer them instruments to play on."

Further details of the Trombone Workshops will be on the band's website in the coming weeks.
