The sound of music by Cornish composer Dr Goff Richards filled the air during the recent Easter Course of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band.
Goff joined the band as a young trombone player when it was founded in the 1950’s and has remained a constant supporter ever since.
Golden Lady
Under guest conductor Richard Evans the majority of the music studied on the course this year by the 60 young musicians, between the ages of 11 and 21, was also written by Goff, and included his composition 'The Golden Lady'.
Premieres
The premiere of two pieces dedicated to Goff also took place, including Darrol Barry's 'Three Cornish Legends', and the first performance of 'Behold The Power of God'.
Guest soloist Owen Farr also gave the first performance of a new work by Andrew Baker called 'Dragon Dances'.

Gala Concert
Following the four days of hard work the band gave a Gala Concert in Newquay on Easter Monday. As well as a host of supporters, the concert was also attended by Goff Richards who was presented with the 'W.A. Hunt Cup' for his conspicuous contribution to the Cornwall Youth Brass Band over the years.
Awards
Other recipients of awards were: 'Youngest Player', Chloe George; 'Most Improved Player', Dany Hancock; 'Most Promising Player', Ella Greenberg; 'A R Trudgian Youth Awards', Jessica Tredrea and Christopher Bond; 'Player of The Year', Matthew Rowe and 'Players Player', Ben King.
