Tuba star Les Neish has received something of a classical music thumbs up.

Awards

His CD recording 'Salt of the Earth' has been receiving wonderful reviews and scooped three leading awards within the brass band world at the end of 2009. However, it seems the disc is now receiving acclaim in wider fields with a small review in 'Classical Music Magazine' this month.

The reviewer was glowing their praise for the recording, stating: "Proof that the tuba, the comedian of the orchestra, is a credible solo instrument abounds in the brilliance of Neish. A selection of arrangements established his dexterity and ability to evoke lush colour. Andy Scott's spicy salsa and jazz mix in the title work flaunts Neish's musicality. Now he needs some works of substance written for him."

Well, if Les can get more works written like Salt of the Earth then the future certainly is bright for solo tuba repertoire!!
