Plenty of awards and enjoyment for Sellers Youth.

Sellers

Sellers International Youth band's new principal cornet Jamie Smith scooped two awards at their first award night.

Awards

Jamie, aged 15, was awarded 'Bandsman of the Year 2010' by MD Alexandra Kerwin and was also voted 'Players Player' by his band colleagues.

15 year old solo baritone player Jess North was presented with the 'Most Improved Player' award.

Moving in

Jamie plays with Hammonds Saltaire and his appointment at Sellers Youth marks a new beginning at the band. The loss of all of last year's principal players to University or being too old to contest has meant a new generation has moved up to take their place.

In the last three weeks Alex Kerwin, with the assistance of Jamie Smith, Murray Preston and Tom Slywkanycz have set up a training band to ensure the future of Sellers International Youth Band.

Rebuilding

A spokesperson told 4BR: "With a creditable performance at the Action Research Championships, this year is a time to rebuild for the future, picking up more concerts and performance opportunities."
