The Fairey (Geneva) Band has announced that flugel player Lucy Murphy has stepped down from her playing role after a deistinguished five year spell with the North West band.
Work commitments
Increasing work commitments means that she will now take a break from playing, although she will retain an active role within the Fairey (Geneva) organisation by remaining as Contest Secretary.
Lucy began her playing career with Marple Junior Band, before moving into the senior band in 1990. In 2003 she moved to Leyland before joining Fairey's back in 2005.
Musicality
A band spokesperson added: "Her musicality and mellifluous tone are well known throughout the banding world and we hope to hear them again one day."
Former principal cornet player Mike Eccles will takeover the flugel horn position at the forthcoming Area contest in Blackpool.
