Five bands, five test pieces — headed by Yorkshire champion Rothwell Temperance at Halifax Minster next month.

The Pennine Brass Festival is set to take place next month with bands playing the five test pieces in the five sections.

Test pieces

The festival is taking place on Saturday 27th February at 6.00pm at the magnificent Halifax Minster.

It will feature performances of the test pieces by Haworth, Lofthouse 2000, Emley, Hebden Bridge and Rothwell Temperance.

Each band will perform a hymn followed by their set test piece, after which an 'adjudication' and summary will be provided by Malcolm Brownbill.

As each of the five sections is represented, it is an opportunity to hear performances of each test piece before the regional contests in early MarchOrganisers

Opportunity

A spokesperson told 4BR: "As each of the five sections is represented, it is an opportunity to hear performances of each test piece before the regional contests in early March."

Success

The Festival was held for the first time in 2006 and was a great success.

The concept for the event came about during discussions between Philip Wilby and the committee of Hebden Bridge Band, who are responsible for organising the festival. Admission is £3 on the door.
