Grimethorpe Colliery Band is set to make an appearance on the Alan Titchmarsh television show on Thursday afternoon, as part of its reminder, 25 years on, of the end of the historic Miner’s Strike.
Miners Strike
The Strike started on March 12th 1984 and ended on March 3rd 1985, and was one of the most politically divisive in modern British history. Grimethorpe, with its band and subsequent closure of its pit became a symbol of a community that was about to be destroyed through political ideology.
The subsequent ‘Brassed Off’ film brought the band world wide fame including many tours to the furthest corners of the banding globe.

History
Band Manager Terry Webster told 4BR: "We are delighted to be involved in the programme, especially as there is such a history attached to the band, the Strike and its aftermath. The new CD features a number of colliery bands, and we hope it will remind people of what happened to communities such as ours at Grimethorpe."
The programme will be shown at 5.00pm on ITV 1.
