Last Sunday saw the launch of City of Cardiff (Melingriffith)’s second string band, to be known as Melingriffith 2.
24 players attended the inaugural rehearsal at Tongwynlais Village Hall and, rather appropriately, kicked off with the march, 'Men of Harlech'.
Core
Resident MD Gareth Ritter, was delighted with the turnout and the standard of playing and told 4BR: "We have the core of a well balanced and promising band and will be setting our sights on competing in the 4th Section at Swansea next March."

Development
In the mean-time, Dave Howard, Band Chairman, told 4BR: "The formation of M2 is both important and exciting. We have about eight young players who have developed to a good standard and need to progress to a higher level."
He added: "They now have the opportunity to play with more mature players, which will assist their development. Also, M2 should provide a resource from which the main Band can draw new players, as the need arises, and will ensure continuity."
