It’s been a very busy, and successful, few weeks for tuba star Gavin Saynor.
Just over a week before the Brass in Concert Championship Gavin received a call from fellow North Walian Glyn Williams from the Fodens Band.
Give it a go
Gavin told 4BR: "Glyn asked me if I’d be willing to play Bb bass at the contest after one of the section became unavailable. I explained that even though I had not really played Bb before I would give it a go!"

Regular dep
Gavin has been a regular dep for Fodens in recent months but only had four rehearsals with them before a concert in Stanhope and then the contest at The Sage. Not only was he then a part of the winning performance with Fodens but Gavin was also delighted to be part of the section awarded 'Best Basses' at the contest.
Welsh trio
The following week Gavin was involved with three bands in preparation for the North Wales Rally contest.
He was MD for Deiniolen in the Second Section and Nantlle Vale in the Fourth, as well as playing Eb bass for Beaumaris. The effort was rewarded with victories for Deiniolen and Beaumaris as well as a fantastic showing by Nantlle Vale, which received praise from many in the audience.
Gavin now looks forward to a couple of weeks off before helping all bands with their Christmas commitments.
