Reigning Brass in Concert champion, Cory, has been hit by an outbreak of Swine Flu just as they start final preperations for the defence of their title in Gateshead in a couple of weeks time.
Struck
Principal percussionist Alun Horgan and horn star Owen Farr have been struck by the virus and are currently recovering at home after being taken ill.
Both will miss concerts this weekend at Plymouth and The Forest of Dean, whilst MD Bob Childs has been forced to rejig rehearsals to minimise further risk to the rest of his band.
I'm considering cancelling rehearsals next week as a precaution. I've spoken to both Alun and Owen and they have really been hit hard by the virusBob Childs
Cancel
Bob told 4BR: "I'm considering cancelling rehearsals next week as a precaution. I've spoken to both Alun and Owen and they have really been hit hard by the virus. We can't afford to take any chances with the rest of the band."
Bob is recovering from the effects of a bout of 'normal' flu himself.
Devastating
He said: "Luckily, I'm not infected, but I have sought medical advice and have been told to err on the side of caution with this. If more of my players catch Swine Flu next week it could have devastating effects on our Brass in Concert appearance."
