Brass for Africa

Brass band stars out in force to help a fantastic cause — headed by David Childs and Owen Farr.

On Saturday 28th November, many of the brass band movement’s biggest names will be coming together for ‘Brass for Africa – A Musical Spectacular’.

Two segments

The event will be held at The Salvation Army in Kettering and will essentially comprise of two segments – firstly a brass masterclass at 12pm given by David Childs and Owen Farr followed by a concert at 7.30pm.

Celebrity Band

The concert brings together the Brass Band Aid Celebrity Band, an all-star band featuring many of the finest players across the UK, from bands such as Black Dyke, Cory, Foden’s, Grimethorpe and The International Staff Band amongst others.

This will be the fourth time the band has come together, and will on this occasion be conducted by Dr. Robert Childs.

The concert brings together the Brass Band Aid Celebrity Band, an all-star band featuring many of the finest players across the UK4BR

Soloists

Also starring will be guest soloists Philip Cobb (cornet), Owen Farr (tenor horn), Brett Baker (trombone), David Childs (euphonium), Les Neish (tuba) and Dave Danford (marimba).

They will be joined by ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ singing sensation Charlie Green, who shot to fame in the 2008 series of the show.

Masterclass

The brass masterclass is open to players of all ages and abilities, and David and Owen will be demonstrating a range of brass techniques as well as answering any questions people may have.

The session will finish with a short recital from the duo.

Zambia Appeal

The event is helping to raise money for the 'Zambia Journey Appeal'.

A group of mainly young people from The Salvation Army at Kettering will be travelling to Zambia next Easter and during their time their will be overseeing a number of worthwhile projects, including AIDS, Orphans and Water Sanitation. They will also be helping to lead a music school there and will be taking out a number of brass instruments to donate.

Harlow Brass Band

February 27 • We are a friendly, non-contesting band who have the following vacancies:. Trombones, 2nd Horn, Back Row Cornets, Percussion. . We rehearse every Thursday in Harlow, 8-10pm and play at local events throughout the year.
