The Ireland Colliery (Chesterfield) Band recently made the short journey to the centre of the Peak District to perform in Bakewell Recreation Park as part of the Bandstand Marathon concerts.

Widespread

Supported by the BFBB, and this year involving over 100 bands around the country, the concerts form the most widespread event in the four year celebration of culture and traditions of the UK, leading up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Playing a mixture of traditional brass band tunes and modern entertainment numbers, the band received numerous positive comments from members of the public who stopped to listen to the bands performance.

Band Chairman Graham Weighill told 4BR: "Events like this can only help to promote the image of brass bands, the quality of entertainment they provide and hopefully encourage more people to become involved in the brass band movement."
