Cornish celebrations

It was a long hard trip to Harrogate, but it all paid off for St Breward.

St Breward

The St Breward Band from Cornwall is still celebrating their National Fourth Section title victory at Harrogate last weekend.

Saints

Their victory means a return to the Third Section next year after they became the fourth ‘Sainted’ band to take a National title back across the River Tamar in the last few years.

10 rehearsals

The band had spent the last six months raising money to get to Harrogate, whilst MD Kevin MacKenzie led them to their triumph after only 10 rehersals with the band.

We are now looking forward to going to Torquay in March to compete in the Third Section bands, and hopefully to Harrogate again!St Breward Band

Sky dive

The fund raising included 'Music on the Moor', (the wind swept Bodmin Moor that is!), whilst two members took part in a 10,000ft sky dive.

The band also spent the summer playing on the Platt at Port Isaac every Thursday night, playing for locals and holidaymakers alike and raised more money with raffles, collections and cake sales.

Looking forward

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are now looking forward to going to Torquay in March to compete in the Third Section bands, and hopefully to Harrogate again!"

All the band also benefitted from Cornwall Council's 'Our Money Your Dream' initiative and a Cornwall Community Foundation Grassroots Grant as well as other local sponsors.
