PLC fires euph canon

Paul Lovatt-Cooper's latest is a cannon shot to celebrate a 35 year old euph gap.

Paul Lovatt-Cooper's latest solo work, 'Canzona Bravura' is due to be performed in the next week or so.

Unusual

That may not be unusual for the prolific composer, but for Martin Smith, who plays with Denham Hendon Brass, it certainly is.

Martin asked Paul to write the piece for him after he returned to playing after a 35 year gap.

Delighted

Paul told 4BR: "I was delighted to be asked to write a solo for Martin. The solo is in a lyrical style that shows off the range and colour of the instrument and wil give the soloist a variety of playing techniques to get their teeth into."

Thrilled

Martin added: "I'm thrilled to be playing a very different type of euphonium solo written by such a talented composer. It will be premiered later this month and is a great way to celebrate my return to playing."
