On 25th August an ensemble from Co-operative Funeralcare Band performed in St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Palmerston Place, Edinburgh.
Fringe
The programme formed part of the Cathedral’s long–running series of lunch-time recitals which ran from 24th to 29th August and again on 31st August, as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
In front of a large and appreciative audience, the ensemble provided a varied and entertaining programme the feature of which was Caroline Farren giving an outstanding performance of the trumpet solo 'Flamenco'. The ensemble was directed by Terry Johns, the band’s Associate Conductor.
It’s very exciting to be able to present them on the international stage also, which is where they certainly deserve to beConductor, Terry Johns
High regard
Speaking of the event Terry told 4BR: "The band has been held in high regard for many years in Scotland and in the brass band world generally. It’s very exciting to be able to present them on the international stage also, which is where they certainly deserve to be."
Return
It is understood that the group were the first brass band group to perform in the series and that immediately after the the performance, an invitation was extended to return next year with the full Co-operative Funeralcare Band to occupy a prime mid-festival Saturday spot.
