4BR has been informed that following discussions between the Executive Committee of the Co-operative Funeralcare Band and the management of the band’s sponsors, it has been decided that the 2009 Scottish Champions will not take up the invitation to compete in the European Brass Band Championships in Linz, Austria in 2010.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "A combination of factors has led to this decision being taken and these include not only matters of finance but also the demands of the band’s projected concert and domestic contest schedule in the early part of 2010."

New representative

4BR understands that the Scottish Brass Band Association has been informed of the decision, and it will now be up to them to discuss the possibility of another Scottish representative taking the place of the band.
