The Co-operative Funeralcare Band has announced the return of cornet player Jim Hayes after an absence of eighteen months.

Return

Jim, who held the top seat with the band under its former name, Scottish Co-op, for five years, returns after a period at the Reg Vardy Band to take over the same position at a crucial time in the band’s calendar.

He will lead the band at the forthcoming Land O’ Burns contest later this month before the major contests of the British Open and National Finals.

I’m really chuffed to be back among a great bunch of people and am looking forward to the musical challenges aheadJim Hayes

Chuffed

Jim’s last performance as a full member of the band was at the British Open in 2007 and since that time he has appeared as a guest with Co-op at the Scottish Open in 2008 and the West Lothian Festival of Brass competition when it emerged as winners for the third time in 2008.

Speaking of his return Jim told 4BR: "I’m really chuffed to be back among a great bunch of people and am looking forward to the musical challenges ahead."

Delighted

A band spokesperson added: "Needless to say, the band is delighted to see Jim back leading the team and is looking forward with keen anticipation to what is hoped will be a successful contesting season."
