The Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band conducted by Philip Harper, were presented with a sponsor’s award donated by ‘Ev-entz.co.uk’ at the recent National Brass Band Festival held at the Symphony Hall.
Third Award
This was the band’s third award in three years and their ninth since 1992. Philip also conducted the band at the annual Music Service’s Summer Showcase concert at St David’s Hall, Cardiff.
National Youth
20 players from the band recently attended the National Youth Brass Band of Wales annual course held at Bangor University and the three concerts at Wrexham, St Asaph Cathedral and Bangor.
The twenty members represented were: Kirsty Davies, Lewis West, Vaughan Eveleigh, Bethan Eveleigh, Katy Beckett, Rhys Barrett (Cornets): Rhiannon Hayes (Flugel): Emma Havard, Lara Jones (Tenor Horn): Ben Roberts, Jack Lapthorn (Baritones): Cian Morrey, Matthew Horne (Trombone): Lloyd Pearce (Bass Trombone): Jamie Jones (Euphonium): Robert Graham-White, Thomas Howells (Eb Bass): Steffan Jones (Bb Bass)and Paul Stoneman, Michael Olivier (Percussion)

Break
The GGYBB now have a break until their Christmas course where they will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a special Concert which will also feature the Intermediate Band and a GGYBB Reunion Band.
The band are also looking forward to the release of their first CD, 'Kingdom of Dragons', which will be available in the Autumn and in time for the band’s Anniversary.
