A spokesperson told 4BR: "Derick joined Aveley & Newham prior to the British Open in 2007 and he has since conducted the band on many occasions in the absence of MD, Nigel Taken.

This prompted the band to offer him the position of Assistant Musical Director and the band look forward to many more years working with Derick both as a conductor and euphonium player."
