The 30th South of Ireland Band Championships took place in Clonakilty County Cork on Saturday 4th July.

A total of 18 bands took part over 3 sections (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) in a competition that it is open to both brass and concert bands playing a 15 minute program of their own choice. The adjudicator on the day was Denis Wilby.

A large crowd packed the Community Hall in Clonakilty from 10.30am to the final results at 7.30pm. The overall winners Arklow Shipping Silver Band, then boarded a road train and played as they were driven through the streets of Clonakilty where a massed band recital took place in the town park.
