Dodworth Colliery Brass Band were in the recording studio recently -but not recording your usual brass band numbers. The band were recording two cover versions of songs by the up and coming 'indie' band 'The Maccabees'.
Authentic
It all began just a few weeks ago, when Dodworth were approached by Fiction Records in London. 'The Maccabees' have released their second album 'Wall of Arms' to much acclaim and wanted to invite an authentic colliery band to cover the next single from the album called 'Can You Give It' — and so Dodworth grasped the opportunity firmly.
Arranged
Mike Kearsey, who plays trombone with the likes of 'Madness' and the 'Jules Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra' arranged the piece for the band. The arrangement only arrived the week before the recording date and to add more pressure the group wanted Dodworth to record another number, 'Young Lions' too.

Blown away
The 'Maccabees' said that they were amazed and blown away by the sound of Dodworth playing their tracks and praised the band for their professional attitude to the whole proceedings.
