2nd: £250 plus the Frank Parker Memorial Cup.

The Iles Medal was awarded to James Scott.

The winning band also received a Sovereign cornet inscribed 'The Harry Mortimer Award'.

Thoresby Colliery, Templemore, East Lancs Paper Group, Burton (Newall), were not invited to the 1978 contest.
