More about Jonathan

Jonathan Corry was commissioned Bandmaster of Enfield Citadel Band in January 2009. He is a former Principal Trumpet of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and then studied for a BMus(hons) at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

At the RNCM he regularly played Bb and Eb cornet with bands such as Black Dyke before studying for a Masters (MMus) in conducting with James Gourlay, Mark Elder and Clark Rundell. During this period he built a portfolio of conducting experience with bands including weekend workshop visits to various SA bands, Cwmaman Institute, Tullis Russell Mills, Besses o' th' Barn, Fairey, Strabane Concert Brass and Brighouse & Rastrick.

He was a finalist in the 2004 NABBC conducting competition and was a semi-finalist of the 2005 European Conductor's competition held in Groningen, Holland. In 2006, he was Conductor of the European Youth Brass Band. Recently, Jonathan has become an associate member of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators where he adjudicated the 4th and the championship sections of the Scottish Area Championships.

He constantly is in demand as a conductor and teacher, working regularly with artists and close friends such as Les Neish, David Thornton, Roger Webster and others. Recently he has been guest conductor of the CMVS brass band course in Rickenbach, Switzerland and will return there in the autumn of this year to record a cd with their staff band. He regularly recieves invitations to guest conduct bands such as Flowers and Grimethorpe.

He has performed and recorded with the Ulster Orchestra on a number of occasions and also been concerto soloist playing the Haydn and Hummel concertos with the Ulster Orchestra and Camerata Ireland respectively.

As well his commitments at Pangbourne College, where Jonathan is Head of Brass, Bandmaster and Assistant Boarding Master; he also performs recitals, masterclasses, producing and editing CD recordings, BBC recordings, world of brass recordings and fulfilling his role as brass professor and rehearsal conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.
