On Friday 16th May 2008, The Solent Area Fellowship Band presented their penultimate concert of the current season at North End Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
The band included a number of items from the current season’s repertoire including, Erik Leidzen’s March, “In the King’s Service”, three movements from Peter Graham’s, “The Haslemere Suite”, a Chorus Arrangement “I, Love You Lord” by Howard Davies, two movements of Morley Calvert’s, “Canadian Folk Song Suite”, the Traditional Welsh Air, “All Through the Night” (arr. Gordon Langford) and Goff Richard’s brass band arrangement of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, “Memory” from the Musical, “Cats”.
Individual items were presented by the band’s Principal Tenor Horn, Callam Carter, who played Gordon Langford’s arrangement of “The Lark in the Clear Air” and Alex Manning who contributed the Flugel Horn Solo, “Feelings” arranged by Derek Ashmore.
New items for this season included the March Fantasy, “The Joy-Bringer” (Kenneth Downie), “The Blessing” (William Himes), “Love Changes Everything” (Stephen Bulla’s arrangement of another Andrew Lloyd Webber tune) and a Euphonium Duet, “Calon Lan” arranged by Eric Ball, played by Brian Norman and Tony Unwin.
Reciprocal words of welcome and thanks were given by Rev’d Kieran Banks (Pastor, North End Baptist Church) and Bandmaster Chris Kennett.
Rev’d Banks also offered prayer, while Major Derek Smith read from Scripture.
The Congregation joined the band in an opening and closing song.
The band now look forward to its final concert of the season at Southampton Shirley Corps on Friday 20th June.
