One of the band movement’s 'up and coming' composers, Andrew Baker, has told 4BR of his delight in having had two of his compositions featured in the prize winning programme of Tongwynlais Temperance Band.

‘A Short Ride In A Brass Machine’ and percussionist Gavin Pritchard’s performance of ‘Kopanitsa’ (written especially to be performed at the event) which won Gavin Geoff Dove Solo Prize were both well received by a packed house, and adjudicators David Read and Major Peter Parkes commended Tongwynlais for demonstrating a commitment to musical innovation in their programme.

Graduate

Andrew is currently the MD of the Coppull & Standish Band, a graduate of the University of Nottingham and a former member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales.

His first test-piece, 'The Once and Future King', was recently used as a set test for the 3rd section of the Swiss National Championships.
