European champion Black Dyke has moved quickly to appoint a new principal tuba player as the band looks toward the defence of its title in Lille in May.
Immediate
One of the UKs finest young tuba prospects Harry Cunningham will take over the position vacated by Ben Dixon with immediate effect — joining the newly crowned Yorkshire Champion from north west rivals Fairey Band.
The first year student at the Royal Northern College of Music is currently studying with Ewan Easton, and is a past member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Thanks
He told 4BR: "I've had a wonderful time with Fairey and would like to take the opportunity to thank Garry Cutt and the players in particular, and wish them the best for the future."
Delighted
Black Dyke's Music Director, Prof Nicholas Childs told 4BR that he was delighted to be able to appoint a player he has seen develop over many years. "I'm delighted to have the opportunity of welcoming Harry to the tuba section at Black Dyke.
I first met him when he was a member of the National Children's Band, and I have watched his progress blossom over the years. He is a remarkable talent."
