The Magnificent Eleven ride again...

Composer Phil Lawrence helps to bring an updated version of he iconic film to the silver screen.

Composer Phil Lawrence has helped the legendary ‘Magnificent Eleven’ come back to life on the silver screen, thanks to his musical score to a new film featuring the last surviving member of the iconic original ‘Seven’, Robert Vaughan.

Premiere

The premiere of ‘The Magnificent Eleven’ took place at The Genesis Theatre in Mile End in London recently, whilst the film itself will be released on DVD through all the main UK superstores next week.

Directed by Irvine Welsh, the film also stars Keith Allen, Sean Pertwee, Gary Mavers and Paul Barber, and tells the tale of an East End amateur football team that backs a local curry house against the baddies protection racket leader (Robert Vaughan).

Ingredients

Phil told 4BR that the film has all the ingredients (literally) to be a smash hit, with his music playing a central part in racking up the excitement and atmosphere.

"The score takes on a mix of both cowboy/western Tex-mex and Indian music. In addition there is the full blown orchestral western title music finishing with a Bollywood dance finale using Elmer Bernstein’s original theme from ‘The Magnificent Seven’.".

World class musicians

Phil used a 60 piece orchestra, as well as world class Bangrah, reggae, rock and Tex-Mex musicians, and with the film already receiving rave reviews, will now fly off to Cannes to rub shoulders with Hollywood’s big brass to see if the film can gain some extra PR over in the USA.

Next project

For his next project however, he is to work on projecting a much more serious message against violence.

"After Cannes I will be working with Indian vocalist from the film, Shahin Badar, on a new single sending a message about the plight of many Asian women and the terrible sexual and educational treatment they suffer."
