4BR Quiz: Weekly Quiz sponsored by Ev-entz

There’s another great prize on offer with our quiz, sponsored by Ev-entz

Trophies

Once again there is a great selection box prize from 4BR and our friends at Ev-entz — as long as you can get your thinking caps on?

CDs & Music

We have a great selection box this week with a brace of great pieces from the pen of composer Rodney Newton plus another trio of CDs.

Get the answer right and you could be getting your hands on the score and parts for the concert work, ‘World Tour’ and the cracking Eb soprano solo ‘Serenade’ — plus solo CDs from Norwegian euphonium virtuoso Tormod Flaten, cornet star Carl Saunders and international trumpet player Philippe Schartz.

Trophy time

This week’s question concerns the two very similar trophies pictured above.

Quiz Question:

The copy of the famous Warwick Vase on the left of the picture was won by the Virtuosi GUS at the Butlins Mineworkers Championship in Skegness last weekend.

However, where will the other, almost identical copy of the famous solid silver vase (right) be won this weekend?

A: Mali
B: Manchester
C: Melbourne

Clues

The trophy is named after a chap called Norman Brookes and has been used at an event that first took place in 1905.

No British competitor has won it since 1934, although one has come close in the last few years and may win it this year.

It’s currently being played for somewhere about 10,500 miles away from Skegness.

Closing date:

All answers for this one must be in by midnight on Sunday 27th January.

Monday Winner

We had a great response to last week’s quiz, with David Harding from Gloucester remembering the year of 1974, when Edward Heath posed the infamous question, ‘Who Governs Britain?’ at the General Election following a Miners Strike ..... and lost.

He gets his hands on the score and parts for the Eb tuba solo ‘Song for the Skies’, the xylophone feature, ‘Rondo Alla Turca’ and the concert work, ‘Island Whirl’—plus CDs from Iain Culross, Brett Baker and Oslo Brass Band.
