After a 30 year struggle, the Llangollen Silver Band is finally enjoying the surroundings of its brand new rehearsal facility in the town.
Three decades
After three decades of struggling to keep their old wooden hut cobbled together, the band secured ‘matched funding’ from Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government Community Facilities and Activities Programme to build a new bandroom.
The new building was formally opened on June 16th and with its carefully designed interior, incorporating double height ceiling, roof lights, kitchen, disabled facilities and even minstrel’s gallery the band, which has close on 40 regular players, bid farewell to cold evening rehearsals!
The band is thrilled with the new premises and plans are now afoot to expand musical activities and open the space to other community groups, especially those with a musical brief in the communityLynda Kay
