Bolsover bands help Boobs charity

The 2011 Bolsover Festival of Brass re-union bands helped raise plenty of cash for Breast Cancer Research.

Bolsover

Bolsover District Council has announced that the recent Bolsover Festival of Brass Re-union Entertainment Contest raised £1,800 for Breast Cancer Research, the charity supported by once of the competitors on the day, Boobs & Brass.

Huge success

Arts Development Officer Carole Crompton told 4BR: "The whole event proved to be a huge success. We already have four bands wishing to take part next year. Breast Cancer Research is a charity supported by Bolsover District Council and we are pleased that we managed to raise so much money."

Desford return

The 2012 event will take place on Saturday 6th October, the day before the official Festival of Brass contest that runs the next day.

It will currently be welcoming the re-union bands from Desford Colliery Caterpillar (1986-1991), Desford Colliery Youth Band (1986-1991), City of Coventry and reigning champions Ransome.

2012 will be the 25th anniversary of Desford’s first National Championship of Great Britain win, and former players are travelling across the world to celebrate the ground breaking victory.

James Watson Trust

Fittingly, Carole added that all profits from next year’s re-union contest will be donated to the James Watson Charitable Trust – the man who masterminded all four of Desford’s National victories.
