Whitburn Band's young baritone star Charlie Boax is celebrating after becoming the Rotary Club UK 'Young Musician of the Year'.

After winning the Scottish final last month, the 16 year old competed against 11 other finalists from across the country at Chetham's School of Music last weekend and took the title by performing 'Zelda' by Percy Code and 'With His First Breath' by Paul Lovatt-Cooper.

Whitburn

Charlie was appointed solo baritone with Whitburn last Autumn and has since experienced winning the Scottish Championship with them earlier this year. A few weeks later, she won the Intermediate Section title at the Scottish Solo Championships for players aged 16 and under.

Speaking about the success Charlie said: "It's been a brilliant since joining Whitburn and I'm still buzzing after winning the Rotary Young Musician prize in Manchester. I'm now looking forward to playing in my first European Championship contest with the band in Malmo and the Grand Shield."

Thrilled

Whitburn Band Chairperson Charlie Farren also spoke of their delight at her success: "Everyone at Whitburn is thrilled for Charlie after her deserved successes. She has been a fantastic addition to the band and we are looking forward with her in our ranks to Malmo and Blackpool."
