Bolsover District Council has announced that there has been a great deal of interest in the forthcoming concert they are hosting featuring the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army.

Time and place

The event will be held on Saturday 24th September (starting at 7.00pm) at Heritage High School in Clowne, and is sure to feature some wonderful music making from the legendary euphonium star Derek Kane who this year celebrates his 40 anniversary as solo euphonium with the band.

Music

The programme will also the opportunity to hear the acclaimed centenary commission, 'The Final Voyage' by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, which commemorates the tragic sinking of HMS Hampshire which was lost at sea on 5th June 1916.

Over 700 lives were lost, including Lord Kitchener (above), with only 12 men surviving the terrible underwater mine explosion. Significantly, there were a number local Derbyshire Miners who were stokers on the ship.

Also featured will be two commissions by Bolsover District Council from composers Paul Sharman and Steven Ponsford, written for the hugely popular Bolsover Summer entitled, 'Inclusion' and 'Triumph of the Cross'.
