It is now 30 years since Black Dyke’s Principal Cornet left
the famous band to set up his now legendary “Versatile Brass”.
In all those years since, some of the finest brass players in the
land have played a part in keeping the group at the very forefront
of brass ensemble performing, whilst some of the most well known
conductors in the business have enjoyed brief sojourns with the
group as well.
To coincide with the Pearl anniversary we have been given a photograph
of the group when they were in the middle of their Australian Tour
of 1978. The group took in a number of towns and cities on the tour
and this picture was taken in Brisbane, Queensland.
Some great players and some not so great uniforms and one Frank
Renton sporting a barnet Bobby Charlton would have been proud of.
We would like to know more about the players and what became of
them, plus any details of the tour - so if you have any information,
drop us a line……
